Many people today ask me what is my background with exercising at home?
I was brought up in Ghana West Africa and for anyone who knows about the struggles of a growing child in Ghana back in the 92's, we had to do a lot of physical work just to get out the house and be on time at school which we hardly where on time in the beginning.
We (my brother and sister) used to get buckets from my mom's kitchen and go out into the neighbouring houses in search of pipes that had water flowing in them or water wells.
We would fill the buckets up, and hold the top edge of the buckets with both hands grasp the full bucket of water with all our might and slightly tilt our heads to finally place the bucket of water on our head. (sounds like fun?)
This water would be used to have a shower.
Then we would sweep the large compound that was in front of our home in Madina Accra.
And then walk a mile to school.
At school we contribute to sweeping the school grounds before we started class.
Exercise was always carved into most of our activities in Ghana.
When I became older after we moved I did a lot of walking to save money on my travel expense and then I could use the money to buy things I wanted that included food.
I would walk hours to get to where I wanted to go.
The sun would be blazing hot and I could feel the sweat running down my face as I walked up and down.
When I started working in 2009, Walking fetching water and all of the exercise was not very frequent is any activity was done at all and I began to fear gaining weight and although I moved into a house that had a some equipment for working out, I never used it at all.
One day my old time long friend came back to Ghana on a visit from Germany.
He was about the same height as me 5 foot 7", but he looked very fit and strong. He had big biceps and his abs where apparent.
He began doing exercise at home and that is when he taught me how to exercise at home.
Yes!!
I started with some of the equipment that was at our home
After a few months, I moved into home that my only source of exercise would be what I learnt from my friend.
Now I am very happy to have maintained my weight and keep fitting into suits I have had for 5 years. I have put together a framework that will help you to be able to do most of your exercise at home and you can avoid paying your gym membership fees.
